DPSF Launches New DPS Bus Driver Certification Fund
It’s no secret that DPS faces a bus driver shortage. But what you may not know is that there are people in our community right now who want to step up and help our students and families but face a major hurdle.
Prospective drivers must pay up to $380 in certification costs out of their own pockets before they even start the job. These costs include up to $230 for their DMV-required training, testing, permit, and commercial license in addition to $150 for a physical.
We know the interest in these jobs is there. Our local workers just need help getting to the driver’s seat. That’s why we’re launching the DPS Bus Driver Certification Fund.
Our goal is to support up to 50 new bus drivers. Here’s how your donation makes a direct impact:
✅ $380 covers the full certification for one driver
✅ More certified drivers means more reliable transportation for students
✅ Every dollar you give helps DPS recruit and train new drivers
Together, we can remove this financial barrier and ensure that every willing driver can complete their training and get on the road.
If you can’t donate right now, don’t worry! There are several ways you can still make a difference:
⭐ Get Involved With Your PTA – Join or encourage your local PTA to show appreciation for bus drivers. If no efforts exist, reach out to your PTA to organize a thank-you event.
⭐ Help Recruit New Drivers – Spread the word about upcoming DPS Career Fairs to encourage more applicants. Subscribe to DPS’s weekly newsletter to stay informed on upcoming career fairs.
⭐ Show Your Appreciation – Small gestures go a long way! Consider giving a thank-you card, a gift card, or even some school merch to a bus driver in your community.
Every act of support makes a difference. Thank you for showing up for our drivers.
Best,
Erika Wilkins
